While the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have begun introducing their new prince to family members, as the world awaits an announcement on the baby’s name, this same country refuses to allow little Alfie Evans a chance at life as the parents appeal to the government to take little Alfie to Italy for further treatment. Alfie is in a “semi-vegetative state” as a result of a degenerative neurological condition the doctors have been unable to identify. The doctors are claiming that his condition is hopeless. And in Great Britain, under government health care, that is all government and the doctors need in order to acts against the wishes of the parents to remove life support, playing God.
It was only in July of this last year that we saw a similar story with baby Charlie Gard. Parents are heart broken, looking for medical help. Then, when it is offered outside of Britain, the government steps in, against the parents’ wishes and blocks any kind of outside help. It is at this point, the government, abrogating parental rights and responsibility and for bureaucratic reasons and policies, plays God.
What seems especially astounding, is the government’s unwillingness to allow other competent hospitals outside the country, who offered to continue treatment, to do just that. It is inconceivable to this writer why the government and the hospital can’t seem to have the compassion for the child and the parents to allow the transfer of the child to another hospital, in this this case, in Italy at Bambino Gesu Pediatric Hospital. The nation of Italy, under extraordinary means granted Alfie Italian citizenship, hoping to bypass any hurdles Britain might use.
There is no question that Britain has arrogantly and immorally taken over the positions of parent and God. It was their plan, that shortly after the removal of oxygen, they would euthanize Alfie by administering Fentanyl, an extremely powerful synthetic opioid to end Alfie’s life. But they missed the appointed time and Alfie continued to live without oxygen. After nine hours the hospital again, for “moral reasons,” again administered the oxygen and hooked Alfie up to an IV so that he would not dehydrate.
We have heard the argument that all modern enlightened nations except the United States has socialized medicine. And when the arguments about the euthanizing of the very young, the incapacitated, and elderly for medical reasons have been brought up, we were told that we were hysterical and hyperbolic, and that those scenarios would never happen. Well, welcome to the brave new world of the hysterical, hyperbolic, and the culture of death.
CBN News.com reported:
Over the weekend he made a post directly to “Her Majesty in Parliament.”
He wrote:
“To Her Majesty in Parliament: We the undersigned humbly petition Your Majesty for protection of life and liberty of your 23-months-old subject Alfie Evans. The judges in Your Majesty’s Courts have given orders:
* to kill Alfie on an appointed hour at Alder Hey Hospital in Liverpool by withdrawing his life support;
* for the day and hour of that killing to be kept secret from the public to avoid any protest or hinderance; and
* for Alfie to be detained in Alder Hey until his death – any attempt to release him to be resisted by force, and punished by imprisonment.”
This is the kind of thing that appears in our worst nightmares or some Sci-Fi “Soylent Green” apocalyptic movie. But now it’s a reality in Great Britain and has been for some time. And now the Evans’ are living that nightmare.
Once a society becomes predominately secular and the Judeo-Christian ethos has been crushed under the guise of pluralism, we are left with a society that is dependent on government not God. And we will worship at the governmental altar of narcissism. It will be there that we destroy each other as we claw for our rights and surrender our personal responsibilities to a lifeless government machine.
True life and freedom are only found in Christ (John 8:30-33, 10:10). He is the author and prince of life (Acts 3;15, Hebrews 5:9, 12:2). Once we put our trust in man as savior, we will only reap death.
